The festival, organized by Cinema Bangladesh, screened 71 films selected out of 1400 submissions by young filmmakers from 101 countries
After Lakshmipur, Rangpur and Mymensingh, Global Youth Film Festival 2020 was successfully held from December 26-28 in Bandarban.
Thespian Ramendu Majumdar, who is also the Chief Adviser of Cinema Bangladesh, inaugurated the festival. Seven films were awarded on the closing ceremony on December 28.
Shahab from Qatar, My Tagalong from Canada, Empathy Trip from Japan, respectively, bagged the Best of the Best, Best Animation and Beat Documentary awards.
The Hiralal Sen Best Bangladeshi Film award went to Ziaul Haque Razu's Batik Babu. Shahjada Al Karim bagged the Tareque Masud Memorial Best Bangladeshi Director award.
Mashroor Parvez won the Best Actor award, and Mexican filmmaker Sébastien Grisels bagged the Best Director award in the festival.
The Jury Board included filmmakers Morshedul Islam, Abu Sayeed, and Arifur Rahman, actors Farida Akhtar Bobita, and Tropa Majumdar, and film critic Sadia Khalid Reeti.
The festival also hosted a filmmaking workshop, joined by around 30 participants.
Among the special screenings this year were Morshedul Islam's Amar Bondhu Rashed, Giasuddin Selim's Swapnajaal and Taneem Rahman Angshu's No Dorai.
The fifth installment of the festival will be held in November 2021 in Cox's Bazar, informed Festival Director Jisan Mahadi.
The festival was free for all and maintained all protocols to ensure the safety of the guests
