Bamba welcomes 27 new bands

The newly selected bands who have received Bamba membership are: Ark, Ashes, About Dark, Bay of Bengal, Band Chatok, Conclusion, Crunch, Elita Alive, Fuad & Friends (FnF), HeartzRelation Band, Indalo, Joler Gaan, Moruvumi, Metrical, Natai, Owned, Oblique, Poraho, Parthibo, Shohortoli, Spondan, Shuvojatra, SIN, Thrash, Tarun Band, Teerondaz, and Unmad

Bangladesh Musical Band Association (Bamba) have included 27 new bands in their members list recently with the aim of expanding the band music scenario furthermore in the country.

With these inclusion, Bamba now has 53 bands under their banner as the total number of members has increased to more than double then the previous one (26).

On January 13 this year, Bamba declared they are taking new applications for their membership. Such an opportunity created much hype as more than 80 bands have applied from all across the country for the membership of Bamba.

Among the applicants, 21 bands have been invited for an audition and jamming session as Bamba were less aware about their activities and footprints in the band music arena.

17 bands took part in that audition and jamming session which was held at Yamaha Music Bangladesh Arena, Jamuna Future Park on February 7.

The judges of the audition and jamming session, titled as Yamaha-Bamba Jam Session, were president of Bamba Hamin Ahmed (Miles), vice president Sheikh Monirul Alam Tipu (Warfaze), general secretary Shakib Chowdhury (Cryptic Fate), assistant general secretary Kazi Sazzadul Asheqeen Shaju (Artcell), treasurer Aly Sumon (Pentagon) and members from executive committee Souls, Dalchut, Nemesis, Powersurge.

Few bands have been picked from the audition event and eventually 27 bands have been selected all together as the new members of Bamba.

“We have not invited those bands (for audition) who’s activities and footprints are already well known to Bamba. Instead, we have called those whose activities or live sessions were little known to us. We have selected few bands from the audition according to merit and later other bands were also picked following the selection process and much discussion,” said Bamba vice President Sheikh Monirul Alam Tipu (Warfaze) to Dhaka Tribune.

“We want Bamba to contribute even more in the music industry of our country. Our goal is to expand our music scene in greater aspects both nationally and globally. Bamba wants to extend the brotherhood among musicians and bands in our band music industry. We have plans to arrange both indoor and outdoor concerts with these bands following health guidelines and other rules-regulation when the pandemic situation will become normal,” Tipu added.  

Bamba announced the new bands as their members through their facebook page. The announcement was seen as, “We sent out the call. You answered! 27 new members band who have joined the brotherhood to create new music history! Welcome to BAMBA, Lets Rock!"  

Meanwhile Bamba president Hamin Ahmed said Bamba will work for the betterment of bands, musicians and artists more specifically from now on.

“This pandemic has given us a new dimension and helps us to think about different factors. Band music industry, musicians are one of the most sufferers during this pandemic time. Almost every sector got help but bands, musicians, session artists did not get any help from nowhere during this tough situation. This kind of tough time can continue for a longer period or even occur again,” said Hamin Ahmed to Dhaka Tribune. 

“Bamba has played many significant roles in the history of band music industry in Bangladesh in last 33 years such as arranging open air concerts for specific noble causes, creating awareness about autism or violence against women etc.”

“From now on Bamba, as an organization, will work closely about how musicians or artists can tackle this kind of pandemic situation as well. We will work on how we can bring reliability and stability for bands, musicians regarding their future earning sources,” he concluded.
