Popular Indian actor Ranbir Kapoor has tested positive for Covid-19, according to his mother actress Neetu Kapoor.

She confirmed the news on her verified Instagram profile on Tuesday.

"Thank you for your concern and your good wishes. Ranbir has tested positive for Covid-19. He is on medication and recovering well," Neetu Kapoor wrote in her post.

She added that Ranbir has been in self-quarantine at home and following all precautions.

Earlier on Monday evening, Ranbir's uncle Randhir Kapoor had said to Indian media that Ranbir is unwell, though he added that he was not clear about the nature of his illness.

In December last year, Ranbir's mother and Bollywood's prominent actress Neetu Kapoor tested positive for Covid-19 when she was shooting for Jugg Jugg Jeeyo in Chandigarh.

Ranbir's father and one of the most iconic superstars in Bollywood, Rishi Kapoor, died of leukaemia on April 30 in 2020, at the age of 67.

The grandson of veteran actor-director Raj Kapoor, Ranbir made his acting debut alongside Sonam Kapoor with noted filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's romantic film Saawariya in 2007, a commercial failure but critically acclaimed.

He rose to prominence in 2009 with his performances in the coming-of-age film Wake Up Sid, romantic comedy Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and drama Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year.

Ranbir cemented his legacy as a prominent actor with much-acclaimed films including Rockstar and Barfi, for which he received two consecutive Best Actor Awards at Filmfare in 2011 and 2012.
