Peter Farrelly, director of popular comedies “There’s Something about Mary” and “Me, Myself, and Irene,” and the Oscar winning film “Green Book” is coming back with his new film “The Greatest Beer Run.”

Based on Chick Donahue and JT Malloy’s book titled “The Greatest Beer Run Ever: A Memoir of Friendship, Loyalty and War”, the film will detail Donahue’s attempt to bring beers from New York to his friends, who were fighting in the Vietnam War. According to reports, Zac Efron has been cast in the lead role of Donahue.

Deadline reported that Apple was in talks to produce the film. What’s more, Russell Crowe has reportedly joined the cast and Bill Murray is in talks for a supporting role.

Crowe last appeared in action thriller Unhinged, which received mixed reviews. Murray’s role in On the Rocks, directed by Sofia Coppola, enjoyed positive reviews.

All eyes are currently on Peter Farrelly who has been heavily criticized for his Oscar-winning film Green Book for its supposedly white-savior mentality. Fans and detractors are eager to see how the director makes a Vietnam War film.
