Americans have spoken and they want Matthew McConaughey and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson to run for office and serve as real-life politicians

Update : 09 Apr 2021, 08:34 PM

A poll by consumer research platform, Piplsay, revealed that 58 percent of respondents wanted McConaughey to run for Texas governor and Johnson for president.

The ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ star has repeatedly flirted with a possible Texas governor run. Rumours were confirmed when McConaughey appeared on The Tonight Show.

With regard to running for governor, the actor said, "It's something I'm giving consideration. Absolutely. What an honorable thing to even be able to consider. I'm no further than that right now, Sir."

Johnson has also toyed with the idea of running for office next.

"I would consider a presidential run in the future if that's what the people wanted," he said earlier this year.

Forty-five percent of the 30,138 Americans polled said they would be supporting the celebrities in the upcoming elections, and thirteen percent said that the stars "must just stick to acting." Eleven percent had a more nuanced take and said that celebrities "must stick to political activism at most."

81 percent agreed that celebrities’ personal politics can influence public opinion and that celebrity endorsements matter. Only 7 percent disagreed with this statement.

22 percent said they would like Tom Hanks in the Oval office next, followed by Will Smith who got 21 percent of the vote, and George Clooney with 17 percent.

30 percent wanted Angelia Jolie to be the first female American President, followed by Oprah Winfrey with 27 percent of the vote, and Dolly Parton with 12 percent.
