Although inspired by the story of Pathao, the company has no financial or creative stake in the film as it is a work of fiction

Nuhash Humayun’s upcoming debut feature Moving Bangladesh has been selected for Marché du Film - Festival de Cannes. The business counterpart to the Cannes Film Festival, Marché du Film is the world’s biggest film market.

Produced by Arifur Rahman & Bijon, Moving Bangladesh was selected for NFDC Film Bazaar’s coproduction market in 2020. The best performing projects from the program have been invited to Marché du Film as part of a collaboration between Film Bazaar & Cannes.

“Making a film takes time and effort. We have been working relentlessly to create something we are proud of and hope to film in mid-2022. However, invitations like this is a huge boost in confidence for us. It’s amazing to know so many people in Bangladesh and beyond believe in this project’s journey. Given all the other incredible news about local cinema, the future of Bangla Cinema looks bright,” said director Nuhash.

French producer Bich-Quan Tran, as well as Taiwanese producer Patrick Mao Huang, have come on board the project, making Nuhash’s first film an international coproduction. Patrick is known for "The Road To Mandalay" and produced two other films of Midi Z Patrick’s film was also selected this years Cannes in Un Certain Regard.  Bich-Quan is producing the highly ambitious animation co-production project "Schirkoa."

Based on a true story, Moving Bangladesh chronicles young entrepreneurs in Dhaka developing an app that could change the face of transport, forever. Although inspired by the story of Pathao, the company has no financial or creative stake in the film as it is a work of fiction.

“Nuhash first pitched the story while I was in Busan studying film producing at Busan Asian Film School (AFiS) and Nuhash went to attend Asian Film Academy (AFA) while Bijon joined to the Asian Premiere of our Afganistan-Bangladesh co-production short film ‘Roqaia’. Then our partnership shaped through a long journey. After an intense writing process, I can tell I’m super confident about the story - and Nuhash as a Writer/Director. He has that passion and sensibility. He is adamant to tell the story he believes in. And as a Producer, I’m quite sure ‘Moving Bangladesh’ will be a film that will connect with the universe’,’ said producer Arifur Rahman.

While Bangladeshi films in past years have had paid screenings in the Cannes film market, this is an official invitation to Marché du Film’s Coproduction Day.

Marché du Film will take place at Cannes from July 6-15 during the 74th Cannes Film Festival (July 6-17)
