Kabir Suman hospitalized with severe breathing problem

The 72-year-old was rushed to the SSKM Hospital in Kolkata after he had complained of sore throat, high fever and breathing issues

Former Trinamool Congress MP and iconic singer Kabir Suman was hospitalized on Monday due to severe breathing problems.

The 72-year-old was rushed to the SSKM Hospital in Kolkata after he complained of sore throat, high fever and breathing issues.

The singer has been placed on oxygen support, a senior hospital official told the press.

"He was having severe throat pain and breathing trouble for the last three days. It deteriorated last night and the singer was taken to the hospital early Monday morning," PTI reported.

Kabir Suman is currently undergoing treatment under a two-member team led by Dr Arunava Sengupta.

The rapid-antigen test administered on him came negative for Covid-19. The singer’s family is now waiting for the reports of CT scan, X-Ray of his chest and other requisite blood tests.

According to Zee News, the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee visited the singer in the hospital and conveyed her best wishes for Suman’s quick recovery.

The singer, who gained acclaim with early albums “Tomake Chai” and “Boshe Anko,” is regarded today as one of the pioneers of alternative Bangla music of the ‘90s.

Singers Anjan Dutta, Nachiketa Chakraborty, Silajit Majumder, and bands like Chandrabindoo  cited Kabir Suman as a major influence.
