The cast includes Oscar Isaac, Tiffany Haddish, Tye Sheridan, Willem Dafoe and others
Filmmaker Paul Schrader is back at the director’s chair with his latest vengeance thriller “The Card Counter,” starring Oscar Isaac in the lead role, who has joined the long list of Schrader’s troubled male protagonists alongside the likes of Robert de Niro, Ethan Hawke and more.
“Redemption is the long game in Paul Schrader’s ‘The Card Counter.’ Told with Schrader’s trademark cinematic intensity, the revenge thriller tells the story of an ex-military interrogator turned gambler haunted by the ghosts of his past decisions,” reads the official synopsis.
The film will premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September and compete for its top honour, the Golden Lion. It will hit the theatres on September 10.
Executive-produced by Martin Scorsese, “The Card Counter” boasts an ensemble cast of Oscar Isaac, Tiffany Haddish, Tye Sheridan, Willem Dafoe and others.
Paul Schrader is best known for penning four Martin Scorsese screenplays: “Taxi Drive,” “Raging Bull,” “The Last Temptation of Christ” and “Bringing Out the Dead.”
