The first trailer for HBO remake of Swedish master filmmaker Ingmar Bergman’s “Scenes from a Marriage” dropped today, on August 18.
HBO ordered the TV remake last summer. Michelle Williams and Oscar Isaac were set to reprise the roles of Erland Josephson and Liv Ullmann. Due to scheduling issues, Williams has dropped out the project and Jessica Chastain has joined the cast. She had previously worked with Isaac in JC Chandor’s “A Most Violent Year.”
The HBO limited series will be directed by “Our Boys” and “The Affair” co-creator Hagai Levi, and tackle themes like monogamy, divorce and fidelity, set against the backdrop of modern American domestic life.
The original series was inspired by Bergman’s numerous difficulties with relationships. The director was married five times. Liv Ullmann, who starred in the original series, had a five-year affair with the director as well.
The HBO limited series will premiere on HBO Max on September 12. Watch the trailer below:
