'We want to say this loud and clear: Pori Moni is one of our favourite artists'
Bangladesh Film Directors Association released a statement on August 30, calling for the release of popular actor Pori Moni, who landed in jail in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
“We have refrained from making any instantaneous comments. We tried our hardest to contact Pori Moni, but failed to do so,” said Sohanur Rahman Sohan, president of the association.
“We want to say this loud and clear: Pori Moni is one of our favourite artists; we all value her inclusion in our film community. Whether she is guilty or not is a matter of the courts. But she should definitely be released on bail. Like every other citizen in the country, Pori Moni is also entitled to her due legal rights,” read the statement.

Failing to get bail in the lower court, Dhallywood actor Pori Moni’s lawyer has submitted a bail plea to the High Court. The actor’s lawyer Mujibur Rahman sought permission to file the petition from the virtual High Court bench comprising Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar.
Pori Moni has so far been remanded three times in the case and the lower courts have rejected the bail petitions filed on her behalf.
On the other hand, Bangladesh Film Artistes‘ Association (BFAA) was quick to suspend the actor’s membership, and called her inclusion in the body “embarrassing.”
