Jaya Ahsan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui were rumoured to be collaborating on a new Indian web series
Bangladeshi popular actor Jaya Ahsan has been a familiar face in both Dhallywood and Tollywood for quite some time. She made headlines with news of embarking on her Bollywood journey with a Hindi web series -- slated for release in 2022.
Directed by Sayantan Mukherjee, the web series will follow the events surrounding the 1967 Naxalbari uprising, an armed peasant movement in the Naxalbari village of the Siliguri subdivision in Darjeeling district, West Bangla.
According to reports, Jaya was set to star opposite "Sacred Games" actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The duo were rumoured to be playing communist revolutionary Charu Majumdar and his wife, Lila Mazumdar Sengupta.
However, Siddiqui said he is not working on the series.
“I am not doing any web series. These are all rumours and I haven’t signed anything. I am not interested in doing anything on OTT unless something that really excites me comes up," he said.

The actor also denounced the OTT platforms, claiming that big studios have taken over the streaming business and are producing mediocre content.
"There is no doubt that OTT platform gave me a global presence. After Sacred Games, whenever I would travel abroad, many people would recognise me and even call me Ganesh Gaitonde (his character in Sacred Games). But sadly, today the quality of content has deteriorated," he added.
"People are now bored of watching the same thing and that is why we hardly see any web series or films which have been widely praised in recent times."
