Students have criticized the departmental authorities' hasty decision
Rafah Nanjeba Torsa of Miss World Bangladesh 2019 could not take part in the special examination due to administrative complexity despite the permission of the authorities.
Rafah is a student of the International Relations Department of Chittagong University in the 2017-18 academic year. It is learned that Torsa could not take part in the 2019 second year examination of the International Relations Department as she was out of the country to take part in the Miss World pageant. Later, she got permission from the University Vice-Chancellor and Controller of Examinations to give special examinations.
However, due to Covid-19, Torsa will not be permitted to participate in the test.
Meanwhile, with the approval of the special examination from the administration, Rafah Nanjeba Torsa was preparing for the third year examination to be held in November. In such a situation, the current chairman of the department, quoting the decision of the academy committee on September 29, told to Torsa that she would not be able to sit for the examination without the approval of the academic committee.
According to university sources, the two students have been approved to take the third year and first year special examinations even after completing their masters in the same department. Students have criticized the departmental authorities' hasty decision.
Meanwhile, this Miss World is mentally broken due to the anxiety of not sit for the exam. Torsa told the Dhaka Tribune: "I have followed all the rules of the University. Why do I still have to face administrative complications? I am not being allowed to take the exam even though I have permission for it... I don't want to lose another year."
Chittagong University International Relations Department Chairman Dr Sujit Kumar Dutta said the matter of Torsa's special examination was not approved by the academic committee. The former president has processed it himself. However, that processing did not have the approval of the academic committee. So she is not getting the opportunity of special examination.
When asked about the two students taking the special exam, he said they were approved by the academic committee on humanitarian grounds. If they cannot take the test this time, their studentship will be canceled. That is why they have been allowed special tests.
In the case of Torsa, however, the department Chairman said the Department can't break its own rules. No decision has been taken on the issue of Torsa alone, the decision has been taken unanimously in the presence of all members of the academic committee.
