This is the first time in 28 years that there won’t be a single gold in the kabaddi competition

Bangladesh’s Asian Games 2018 journey in 11 out of 14 disciplines they have taken part in is set to end Sunday with the remaining events of shooting and archery. This is the first time in 28 years that there won’t be a single gold in the kabaddi competition.

The 23-member men’s and women’s kabaddi team left Jakarta, Indonesia for Dhaka Saturday, along with the swimming, weightlifting and rowing teams.

The football team, after making their historic knockout qualification, will return home in two different flights. The 11 players who started against North Korea will leave Jakarta Sunday morning while the remaining squad members left Saturday.

The men’s 3x3 basketball team were the latest to end their campaign after losing their two Pool B fixtures against Chinese Taipei and South Korea at GBK ground Saturday evening, while the other teams in different disciplines also continued their spree of elimination one after another.

The only win of the day came from Bangladesh bridge team, who defeated Malaysia but couldn’t improve their ranking from 11th position with 98.32 after the 13th round of the game, where 14 teams are taking part.

In archery, the recurve women’s team lost to Japan 6-2 in the 1/8 elimination round while the recurve men’s side also conceded a similar margin of defeat against Mongolia in the same stage of the event. The compound men’s and women’s team will play in the pre-quarterfinals of the compound team events Sunday, and thus, archery’s campaign will conclude.

Bangladesh’s only skeet player in the 16-man shooting contingent, SM Sabbir Hasan, finished 28th out of 30 participants in the qualification of the skeet men’s event with a score of 58 at JSC shooting range in Palembang.

Shooting’s chapter concludes after Sabbir plays in day two of qualification Sunday morning.

The fourth and final round of golf was scheduled to be held Saturday where a five-member Bangladesh amateur team are participating. Bangladesh are currently ranked 16th out of 20 teams after the end of round three.

Meanwhile, the national hockey team, who will be the last to leave among the 14 Bangladesh sides at the Asiad, will play their fourth group stage match against Thailand at GBK field Sunday. Head coach Gobinathan Krishnamurthy termed the game as the most important for the side’s bid to earn a place among the top six.
