Dhaka, Khulna win in Women’s Hockey

Dhaka and Chittagong will lock horns with each other in Thursday’s only match, at 3:30pm

Dhaka and Khulna won their respective match at the Walton 4th National Women’s Hockey Tournament at Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in Dhaka Wednesday.

Dhaka edged Rangpur 1-0 with Fardia Akter scoring the all-important goal in the 39th minute.

The second game at the same venue between Rajshahi and Mymensingh ended in a goalless draw.

Khulna beat Barisal 3-0 with Kimi netting a brace (20th and 43rd minute) and Nadira scoring once, in the 43rd minute.

Dhaka and Chittagong will lock horns with each other in Thursday’s only match, at 3:30pm.

A total of seven teams are participating in the tournament. Group A comprises Khulna, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Barisal while Group B contains Dhaka, Chittagong and Rangpur.

The group stage matches will conclude Friday with the semi-finals scheduled to be held Sunday. The final and third place playoff will be held Monday.

The champion will receive Tk60,000 while the runners-up side will get Tk40,000. The tournament’s best player and highest goal-scorer will also be rewarded.

The tournament has been organised by Bangladesh Hockey Federation and sponsored by Walton. The national women’s side will be comprised with the best players from the tournament.

It should be mentioned that Narail won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2012 while they also clinched the second edition a year later. Jhenidah sealed the last title, three years ago.
