The second phase of the Bangladesh Premier League is still ongoing but the BFF has prepared a calendar for the upcoming season, which was approved by an executive committee meeting at the BFF House Thursday

The Bangladesh Football Federation has decided to implement a domestic football calendar which could match with the international fixtures of the national team, as well as the premier league clubs, unlike the previous seasons.

The second phase of the Bangladesh Premier League is still ongoing but the BFF has prepared a calendar for the upcoming season, which was approved by an executive committee meeting at the BFF House Thursday.

The top-flight clubs are set to get little time to rest as the committee decided to conclude the ongoing premier league fixtures by July 31 and open the next season’s players’ transfer window from August 16 to September 15.

The Federation Cup, the season-opening tournament in the calendar, is scheduled to kick off on October 21 while the 12th edition of the BPL is set for a six-month schedule, starting from December and ending in May.

“The ongoing professional league is scheduled to end on August 8 but a couple of executive members involved with the clubs requested to complete the fixtures by July 31 because the BFF has decided to start the next season’s calendar from August 16. We will rearrange the schedules soon after sitting with the clubs within a couple of days,” said BFF senior vice president and professional league committee chairman Abdus Salam Murshedy after the meeting.

The committee congratulated the national team as well as national team management committee chairman Kazi Nabil Ahmed for latest success to qualify for the Fifa World Cup 2022 Qatar qualification round.

Nabil admitted it would be hasty for the smaller clubs to join the transfer battle.

“If we want to do better at international level, we must follow the August-May calendar. We know it will be tough for the small clubs to take part in the transfers within a few days after the completion of this league but we have to do it for greater purpose. Then we can also use the Fifa window for the national team and the clubs will also play the AFC Cup without any interruption,” said BFF vice president Nabil.

The BFF also thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Finance Minister Mustafa Kamal for allocating Tk20 crore for football.

Nabil informed that the allocation will be spent for the national team, women’s team and football development works.
