Uncapped opener Naim Sheikh, top-order batsman and part time leg-spinner Aminul Islam, experienced pacers Shafiul Islam and Rubel Hossain and top-order batsman Nazmul Hossain Shanto have been selected for the remaining matches of the series
Host Bangladesh will face Zimbabwe in their third match of the tri-nation T20I series at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium Wednesday, focusing on picking up the right tempo and momentum in the shortest format.
A narrow win in the first game against Zimbabwe and the 25-run loss against Afghanistan shows that the Tigers are not in confident state in terms of performance at their own backyard.
Bangladesh team management has decided to bring massive changes in the squad by including five more players with the aim of changing the fortune.
Uncapped opener Naim Sheikh, top-order batsman and part time leg-spinner Aminul Islam, experienced pacers Shafiul Islam and Rubel Hossain and top-order batsman Nazmul Hossain Shanto have been selected for the remaining matches of the series.
Top-order batting remains a major concern for Bangladesh in recent T20Is as regular openers failed to produce blistering starts at the beginning of an innings, which is very much essential in the T20 format.
Bangladesh even tried Mushfiqur Rahim as an opener in the last game, but that plan failed horribly against the Afghans.
@BCBtigers middle-order batsman Mosaddek Hossain admitted that the Tigers batsmen need to be more clinical in the middle, and vowed to play aggressive cricket in their remaining games of the tri-nation T20I series.https://t.co/XyBhzEP1U9#BCBTIGERS #BCB #TIGERS #BANGLADESH #ZC— Dhaka Tribune Sports (@Sport_DT) September 17, 2019
Soumya Sarkar is struggling with the bat and as a consequence has been dropped from the squad.
Naim has been named in the squad and has a good chance to make his debut in the next match.
Bangladesh will qualify for the final if they win today as they have managed one win among two games, while Zimbabwe have won none and Afghanistan won both.
The Tigers are planning to play attacking brand of cricket and pick up the momentum from their next game.
The wicket at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium generally offers plenty of runs for the batsmen so it is expected to be a high-scoring encounter.
Bangladesh took part in the training session at ZACS in the afternoon, while both Zimbabwe and Afghanistan trained in the morning.
Left-handed batsman Soumya Sarkar, right-arm spinner Sheikh Mahedi Hasan, pacer Abu Haider Rony and Yeasin Mishu have been put out from the previous squad.https://t.co/vi77NrFcMV#BCBTIGERS #BCB #TIGERS #BANGLADESH #CRICKET #BANGLADESHCRICKET #SOUMYASARKAR #SOUMYA #SARKAR #ACB— Dhaka Tribune Sports (@Sport_DT) September 17, 2019
Zimbabwe have no other options but to win to stay alive in the tournament as they lost both of their previous matches.
“Both games are must win games for us. We need to do our basics correct. There are fine margins in this game, if we can improve in those areas then I think we have a good chance to win both the remaining games. We have pushed both Bangladesh and Afghanistan into the last overs in the last two games. If we can make better decisions in the field more frequently then we have good chance to qualify for the final,” said Sean Williams during training Tuesday.
Rain took away some game time in Chittagong when Bangladesh played Afghanistan in their one-off Test match last week.
But weather forecasts are showing less chance of rain in the port city Wednesday.
The match will start at 6:30pm local time.
