Bangladesh football team captain Jamal Bhuiyan is confident of a positive display when they take on India in their third Group E match of the 2022 World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup joint qualifiers at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata Tuesday.
The Bengal Tigers are coming to the India clash on the back of a brave performance against Asian champion Qatar at Banganbandhu National Stadium in Dhaka Thursday where, despite losing 2-0, the men in red and green scripted several goal-scoring chances.
Jamal said this will serve them in good stead against the Indians.
“We put up a good fight and created quite a few chances. Qatar attacked in numbers. We went for the counter attacks. We got opportunities, I myself got two chances. Qatar didn’t get too many chances, they scored from two crosses. At the half-time break, I felt like we could hurt them. They saved three balls from the line. We should have got one point, we were unlucky,” said Jamal.
@ChennaiyinFC's defensive midfielder, Masih Saighani, previously at Abahani, has warned India to be wary of Bangladesh when the two teams face off in a Group E tie of the 2022 @FIFAWorldCup and 2023 Asian Cup joint qualifiers at Salt Lake Stadium.https://t.co/uG4IecrKCW#BFF

“It's a crucial game not only for us but for India, too. They also need a win. It’s going to be a tough match. I feel there will be a lot of tackles and also a few yellow cards. Nobody wants to lose this match. I don’t want to lose and I am sure Sunil (Chhetri) doesn’t either,” said the Saif Sporting Club midfield enforcer.
Bangladesh head coach Jamie Day also echoed the same sentiment and praised his charges for the Qatar display.
The English coach said, “They played extremely well and I am very pleased. I am just looking for another positive display.”
