The first of three T20Is will be held at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi on November 3

Bangladesh opening batsman Tamim Iqbal has withdrawn his name from the upcoming tour of India.

Left-handed batsman Tamim took off his name from the squad citing personal reasons to the Bangladesh Cricket Board who later approved the cricketer’s decision through a media release Saturday.

Another opener Imrul Kayes joined the ongoing national camp at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka as a possible replacement of Tamim, but the BCB is yet to confirm this decision.

Earlier, Bangladesh ruled Saifuddin out from the India series due to a back injury.

Cricket’s governing body in the country is also yet to name a replacement for Saifuddin.

It is understood that Tamim came to the decision to miss the much anticipated India series to be beside his wife, who is expecting their second child.

Tamim, who is also nursing a rib injury but was still included for the three-match T20I series against host India, was initially set to miss only the second game of the two-Test series.

“Tamim had informed initially that he would miss the second Test [against India at Eden Gardens in Kolkata] but now he has decided to be with his wife for the coming weeks, which will see him miss the full series," said BCB chief of the national selection panel Minhajul Abedin to the media Saturday.

With the decision altered, Tamim is now set to miss two national series’ in a row.

The Tigers opener had earlier missed Bangladesh’s solitary Test against Afghanistan at home, followed by the tri-nation T20I series involving the Afghans and Zimbabwe in September this year.

“It is disappointing not to be part of the India series. But at the same time, the occasion in my life is also important. I believe it is the same for everyone. We as professional cricketers usually stay away from family. The family has to sacrifice a lot,” said Tamim.

“It is unfair to my wife and family if I am not with them even at this time. They deserve at least this much time from me,” he added.

The 30-year old missed the series after being granted a sabbatical from the game following Bangladesh’s tour of Sri Lanka for three ODIs in July.

Tamim returned to action following the break with the first round of the National Cricket League for Chittagong in tier two before picking up the rib injury in the game.
