Rangpur all-rounder Nasir Hossain’s one-match suspension was lifted as he made it to the playing XI in place of leg-spinner Rishad Hossain in National Cricket League Sunday.

The situation occurred on day two of the ongoing NCL Tier 1 fixture between Rangpur and Rajshahi at the academy ground of Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar.

Nasir was serving a one-match ban after being found guilty of “not being serious in the field”, and also for getting involved in an altercation with the on-field umpire in the previous game, against Dhaka at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.

Following the match, the tournament committee imposed a one-match suspension on the out-of-favor Bangladesh cricketer.

In a twist of events, Nasir found his way back into the field in place of Rishad, who was among the nine players to join the national camp in Dhaka Sunday ahead of Tigers’ India tour.

It is understood that Nasir, despite the suspension, travelled with the team to the coastal city bearing his own expenses.

After being found guilty, the right-handed batsman and off-spinner apologized to the Rangpur team management, and requested them to allow him to stay with the team so that he can attend the practice sessions.

“Nasir apologized, and with Rishad joining the national camp, they [Rangpur] had to take Nasir in the starting XI. Coincidently, Nasir travelled with the team on his own with the intention of attending the practice sessions,” said BCB member of the national selection panel Habibul Bashar to Dhaka Tribune Sunday.

“It would have been tough for Rangpur to fly in a new member in the squad for the game, for which Nasir got included, and he took the field,” the former Bangladesh captain added.

Argument however, remains over Nasir’s replacement in the XI.

As per the regulations, a bowler can take the field in place of a fellow bowler, and the same applies for a batsman.

Nasir is an established batting-all-rounder and came in place of the full time bowler Rishad, who on day one of the game made the headlines with a five-wicket haul.

Nasir was unbeaten on 55 off 82 balls with five boundaries and two over boundaries at stumps on day two in the first innings.
