Bangladesh and Pakistan U-19 cricket teams will take on each other Friday at JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom with the aim of finishing as the Group C champion in the U-19 World Cup.

Both the teams earlier secured their passage to the knockout phase of the 16-nation age-level event after beating Zimbabwe and Scotland in their opening two group stage matches.

The junior Tigers beat Zimbabwe by nine wickets in accordance with the Duckworth/Lewis method before defeating Scotland by the same margin.

Both Bangladesh and Pakistan have maximum four points from two matches but the former are ahead courtesy superior net run-rate.

All that remains to be seen now is who finishes as Group C champion and take on either South Africa or the United Arab Emirates in the last eight.

Afghanistan, who have already qualified for the quarter-final as the Group D champion, will take on the loser between Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim exuded confidence ahead of their clash with Pakistan, which will start at 2pm, an hour before their senior teams face off in the first of three T20Is at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

“We won our first two games convincingly. We will face Pakistan Friday. Pakistan are a strong team. But we are not thinking about that. If we can play our natural game, we will win. Everyone is confident after winning the first two matches. We will take to the field with a lot of confidence,” said Tanzid.

“Our target is to finish as the group champion and enter the quarters. If we can do that, it will be good for us. Because we know the knockout stage will be tough. A win is of paramount importance against Pakistan.”
