Nigerian striker Eleta Kingsley stole the show in the port city with a clinical brace for Arambagh, who lost both their Federation Cup group stage matches against Police FC and Abahani by big margin due to lack of preparation

Arambagh Krira Sangha clinched their first victory since the casino crackdown in Dhaka five months ago, as well as their first win in the Bangladesh Premier League 2019-20 season, beating host Chittagong Abahani Limited 2-1 at MA Aziz Stadium in the port city Tuesday.

Nigerian striker Eleta Kingsley stole the show in the port city with a clinical brace for Arambagh, who lost both their Federation Cup group stage matches against Police Football Club and Abahani Limited by big margin due to lack of preparation.

Arambagh’s last win (5-2) came against Brothers Union in their last game of the league’s previous edition in August, 2019.

“We couldn’t train well due to lack of practice venues. The condition of the club has not been good due to accommodation and financial problems. The team are merely surviving and avoiding relegation is the only target. I’m happy with the win under such circumstances,” said Arambagh coach Sheikh Jahidur Rahman Milon, who termed their defeat against Mohammedan in the first game “unlucky”.

Eleta put the visitor ahead in the 38th minute from a counter attack as the Nigerian beat the offside trap to collect a superb lob of Egyptian midfielder Mostofa Mahmoud before calmly placing past keeper Mohammad Nehal.

Two quick goals were scored in the added time of the first half and it was initiated by former national striker Shakhawat Hossain Rony’s simple tap in following Chinedu Mathew’s low cross, which equalized the margin.

The delight however, ended a minute later when Eleta punished defender Shawkat Russel’s silly backpass to seal victory.

The host couldn’t revive the momentum they needed to come back after the break.

Brazilian striker Nixon Brizolara was introduced in place of Rony but one of his efforts hit the crossbar in the 65th minute, while the other was saved by the keeper two minutes before the end of stipulated time.
