Bangladesh women’s cricket team will head into the World T20I with a lot of confidence after beating Pakistan by five runs in the warm-up match in Brisbane, Australia Thursday.

Seamer Jahanara Alam and spinner Khadija-tul Kubra were the standout performers with the ball as they picked up four and three wickets respectively.

Batting first, the women in red and green posted a moderate 111 losing eight wickets in their stipulated 20 overs, opener Murshida Khatun top-scoring with a fine 38-ball 43, featuring half a dozen fours.

Batters Fargana Hoque (21), Ritu Moni (14*) and Nigar Sulatana (13) were the only others who reached double digit.

Pakistan’s Aiman Anwar bagged two wickets while Aliya Riaz, Sadia Iqbal and Anam Amin picked up one apiece.

In reply, Pakistan were in all sorts of trouble, losing their third wicket in 3.5 overs with only 23 on the board.

Jahanara notched the first wicket to fall, while skipper Salma Khatun bagged the other two inside the first four overs.

Pakistan then lost regular wickets in the middle overs and credit goes to Kubra, who gave away only 11 runs in her quota of four overs.

In the last two overs, the Pakistanis required 24 with two wickets in hand.

Salma conceded 14 in the second last over of the game and thus the opposition needed 10 off the final overs.

But Jahanara ensured the women in red and green would have the final laugh as she took the remaining two wickets.
