Bangladesh Cricket Board has changed its stance over wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim ahead of the last leg of Bangladesh’s tour of Pakistan, comprising the lone ODI and second and final Test match in Karachi.

The board had initially left the decision in the cricketers’ court regarding the participation in the tour, and Mushfiq had opted out, citing concerns over security.

BCB however, now believes all centrally-contracted cricketers, including Mushfiq, shall be part of the remainder of the tour in April.

The thought by the decision-makers of the board is based on the fact that the previous two parts of the tour was completed without any glitches.

The revelation was made by BCB president Nazmul Hasan Tuesday amid speculation that Mushfiq is rethinking over his decision, and be part of the team.

News of Mushfiq’s availability for the tour emerged following his historic unbeaten 203-run knock against Zimbabwe in the just-concluded one-off Test at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.

Riding on Mushfiq’s heroics, Bangladesh registered a Test win after six straight defeats, including five by an innings.

Mushfiq’s blistering form has boosted Bangladesh’s fragile batting that was troubled greatly in the first Test in Rawalpindi earlier this month as the visiting side lost by an innings and 44 runs.

“He [Mushfiq] has not informed us anything of such [to be part of Pakistan tour] yet but I hope he will go. All centrally contracted players should go. You need to think of the country and not always yourself. Everyone’s family is important but the country in bigger,” said Nazmul to the media following Bangladesh’s win over Zimbabwe by an innings and 106 runs.

Occasions have been many when Nazmul, while giving out statements to the media, had lost control over his emotions.

A similar situation happened in this case too where the board president went on to involve even the families in an effort to validate the board’s intention.

Mushfiq and all-rounder Mahmudullah are brothers-in-law and Nazmul had expressed surprise as to how members of the same family shall have different decisions.

Mahmudullah was part of the Bangladesh team in the first two phases of the tour of Pakistan in January and February.

“We also had a fear working at the back of our mind. Everyone who toured [Pakistan] had some sort of concern. Those that have already toured include his [Mushfiq’s] family member [Mahmudullah],” said Nazmul.

“What I am trying to say is nothing will happen in case of Riyad [Mahmudullah] and that the family is worried only with him [Mushfiq]. He can ask Riyad on the experience and from others too and change his perspective. We will not force anyone though,” he added.

The Pakistan ODI will be held on April 3, followed by the second Test, starting two days later.
