Jamal to put Bangladesh-India jersey on auction

Jamal Bhuiyan, the national football team captain, has decided to put one of his jerseys, that he wore against India during the 2022 World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup joint qualifying match in Kolkata last year, for auction to raise funds for the Covid-19 victims.

Bangladesh played valiantly to almost snatch a win before the 88th-minute equalizer at the jam-packed Salt Lake Stadium, dubbed as the Mecca of Indian football, where they travelled for the first time in 32 years.

Jamal, the Saif Sporting Club midfielder, wore No 6 jersey during the intense encounter between the two fierce south Asian rivals.

“I want to put that jersey on auction so I can use the money to buy rice, oil, flour, daal, onions, potatoes, soap and other vital things for the poor people in Bangladesh,” said Jamal from Denmark where he is spending Covid-19 days with family.

“My cousin who is in Bangladesh, he has one of my jerseys from the India match in Kolkata from the 1-1 match. I’ll speak with my cousin first then I’ll get back to you. I want to auction my jersey so the money can go to the poor people.”

Earlier, the jersey of the late legendary defender Monem Munna was sold on auction. 

Another football legend, Sheikh Mohammad Aslam, along with former star striker Alfaz Ahmed also decided to put their boots, jerseys on auction.
