Williamson keen on BPL participation

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has expressed interest to take part in the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20. 

Williamson during a live session on social media with Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal revealed his interest.

Right-handed batsman Williamson is a regular campaigner in different T20 leagues around the globe but yet to make an appearance in the BPL. 

Williamson said he will like to join the next edition of the tournament if the schedule doesn’t clash with his international commitment.

“You know we have our own T20 League called BPL and people here wants to see you play in this tournament. Please come and join us if you are not busy at the time,” said Tamim to Williamson during the 40-minute long live session.

Williamson replying to Tamim’s request said, “I am eager to play this tournament. It is a good tournament with electrifying matches I have heard. I will surely come to play if I get to match my schedule. Let’s see what happens in future.”

Tamim during the session discussed many on-field stories, and some related to Williamson as captain.

Before concluding the show, Tamim took the opportunity to thank the people of New Zealand for the support the Bangladesh cricket team had received following the Christchurch attack in 2019.

“The incident that happened in Christchurch in 2019, I do not want to go in details of it but following the incident the support we got from the people there have been amazing. Those might have been the smallest of things but were very important to us,” said Tamim.

“People were coming to our hotel to ensure that we were well and if we needed anything. The love and care they had given us is something the Bangladesh team will remember for life,” the Bangladesh opening batsman added.

Kane adding to Tamim’s comment said, “It incident had hurt us [New Zealand] us a lot. I feel for you guys [Bangladesh team] and many others who were close to the incident. The whole country was shaken by the incident. It was a very sad incident for us.”

Tamim had started the series of live sessions with his long time Bangladesh team colleague Mushfiqur Rahim on May 2. 

Following that, the ODI skipper hosted 11 episodes, bringing in guests from the cricket fraternity from Bangladesh and abroad. 

The final episode of the series will be streamed live on Saturday, May 23, at 10:30pm, featuring Mashrafe bin Mortaza, Mahmudullah and Mushfiq as special guests.
