Curiosity has been large whether Mashrafe will be seen in action in the Khulna outfit against Chattogram at Mirpur Tuesday

Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza is at the center of all attention after the veteran cricketer got included in the remainder of the ongoing Bangabandhu T20 Cup.

The right-arm pacer was roped in by Gemcon Khulna, a star studded side, where Mashrafe has joined Mahmudullah and Shakib al Hasan along with other prominent names from the national circuit.

As many as four teams showed interest mid-tournament with regards to acquiring Mashrafe’s services after the 37-year old recovered from injury.

And in a lottery held by Bangladesh Cricket Board Sunday, Khulna were lucky to grab Mashrafe for the rest of the competition.

Upto the mark result in fitness, Mashrafe also got negative in Covid-19 test and is set to join his new team Tuesday.

Khulna had a day off Monday but former Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe attended a personal training session at the BCB academy facilities in Mirpur.

Curiosity has been high whether Mashrafe will be seen in action in the Khulna outfit in their next game, against Gazi Group Chattogram at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Tuesday.

It is understood that the Khulna team management are set to face a sweet dilemma over the selection as the side have been supported strongly by the pace attack they already have.

Shahidul Islam, Al Amin Hossain and young Hasan Mahmud have served the team well so far.

Right-arm pacer Shahidul with 11 wickets in six matches is at No 2, just behind Chattogram’s Mustafizur Rahman, in terms of taking wickets in the tournament so far.

Two other pacers right-arm pacemen Hasan and Al Amin have picked six and three wickets respectively and also proved to be economical.

Khulna are sharing top spot of the table with Chattogram with eight points.

Beximco Dhaka and Minister Group Rajshahi have six and four points respectively and are left with two more games in the first round.

Fortune Barishal have struggled the most with only one win in five games.

The side led by Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal were seen as one of the weakest teams on paper in the five-team competition and the claim is relevant with the performance they have shown thus far.

Barishal will take on Minister Group Rajshahi in the afternoon game Tuesday.

A win is a must for Barishal in every match going forward to remain afloat in the competition.
