The news has come as a relief to Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB] as a positive case would have plunged the bio-bubble security in place for the tournament in question
Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal has tested Covid-19 negative.
Tamim, leading Fortune Barishal in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup, got the scare of the virus after he reported symptoms such as cold and body weakness.
As a precautionary measure Tamim was kept in isolation in the team hotel and was tested Sunday morning.
The news has come as a relief to Bangladesh Cricket Board as a positive case would have plunged the bio-bubble security in place for the tournament into question.
The five teams for the tournament have been staying at the same hotel under a bio secure bubble setup by BCB on November 20.
A case inside the bio-bubble would have also put the ongoing discussion between BCB and Cricket West Indies into difficulty.
Bangladesh is scheduled to host the West Indies from January.
An inspection team from the Caribbean island visited Dhaka earlier this month to assess the Covid-19 management by the BCB alongside other arrangements.
Tamim’s negative Covid-19 test result should come as a respite to Barishal as they take on Beximco Dhaka in the Eiminator Monday.
Tamim when this report was filed was feeling physically weak but it is understood that he will be available for Barishal in the crucial game.
Tamim’s situation was first revealed Saturday after the left-handed batsman was absent in the second innings of the Dhaka and Barishal game.
Concerns were raised when Tamim informed the media that he had been put in isolation at the hotel because he felt "very weak" upon returning from batting in the first innings.
