The left-handed batsman has been suffering from an old groin injury

Uncapped top order batsman Parvez Hossain Emon has been ruled out from Bangladesh preliminary ODI squad for the three-match home series against West Indies. The left-handed batsman has been suffering from an old groin injury and thus has been put off the 24-member squad for the series which is going to be Bangladesh’s first international assignment in 10 months.

Member of the national selection panel Habibul Bashar confirmed Parvez’s case to the media on Monday.

According to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury informed that Parvez was taken to the hospital for a check-up on Saturday and he said, “This is his old injury. Following check and some tests he has been advised to rest for a week. For which we did not keep him in the team hotel.”

Former Bangladesh captain Bashar further explained the reason for Parvez’s removal from the squad.

“He is suffering from an old injury on his groin. He was taken to the hospital which means he had to go out from the bio-secured bubble. So, now he will have to be in three-day isolation and will also require time for him to recover. This is why we thought of not keeping him in the squad further. We will not bring in a replacement for now,” said Bashar.

The 18-year-old Parvez made into the Bangladesh pipeline riding on his performance for Bangladesh U19 in their World Cup winning campaign last year and later his heroic for Fortune Barishal in Bangabandhu T20 Cup. Batting at number three, Parvez had struck the quickest century as a Bangladesh batsman in T20 in the tournament scoring an unbeaten 100 off 42 deliveries.

The national think-tank to further asses the talent, had made Parvez part of the ODI preliminary squad against West Indies. Bangladesh will take on West Indies in the three-match ODI series starting later this month. The first two matches will be played at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on January 20 and 22. For the third and the final game of the series, the two teams will travel to Chattogram and play the game on January 25 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
