Mahmud opined that the issues raised by Mashrafe and Shakib against the board can be easily solved through discussion if the problem is real
Bangladesh Cricket Board director and the chairman of the game development committee, Khaled Mahmud thinks the outburst of two senior cricketers Mashrafe bin Mortaza and Shakib al Hasan against the BCB is driven out of emotion and love for the game.
Former ODI captain Mashrafe and all-rounder Shakib have recently been vocal against activities of the board and cited their opinion with regards to managing the sport in the country.
Shakib made major headlines while sharing his views in a live interview session with cricket based website Cricfrenzy.com.
While Mashrafe took to different media outlets to share his side of frustration, and put more focus on his personal relation with the board, and how the BCB could have better handled his last phase in the national dressing room.
It is understood that BCB has noted the opinion coming from the two most senior and successful cricketers of the country, but has maintained deliberate silence.
It was only BCB director and cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan and BCB high-performance unit chairman Naimur Rahman Durjoy, who had come open replying to the comments coming from Shakib in the very initial part of the chapter.
While talking to a private TV channel, Mashrafe stated that he was forced into a situation to announce his retirement from T20 cricket.https://t.co/IeuoaqzKfZMarch 27, 2021
This time, it's Mahmud.
Former Bangladesh captain Mahmud while speaking to the media on the issue Saturday said the statements coming from the two icon cricketers is embarrassing for the board.
“Honestly the situation is a bit embarrassing. Both (Mashrafe and Shakib) are icons in our country. Mashrafe is the most successful ODI captain for us; he has literally pulled the team up from nowhere. We first need to understand the reason behind their statements against the board. I am not sure if it has come from the love and frustration for the game,” said BCB director Mahmud.
“But this is embarrassing for the board for sure. Success doesn’t come every time but one cannot claim that anyone (BCB directors or officials) comes to the board to pass their time. I believe everyone tries to do their job in the best way possible. I see this as their (Mashrafe and Shakib) personal opinion and should not take it very seriously,” Mahmud added.
Mahmud opined that the issues raised by Mashrafe and Shakib against the board can be easily solved through discussion if the problem is real.
“I always say our president (BCB president Nazmul Hasan) is a person who follows all parts of the board and cricket in the country. He is able to handle any situation well. I will again say these (statements from Mashrafe and Shakib) are small issues and will be solved soon if the board wants. We should put our focus back to cricket. We have an important tournament like the World T20 later this year. Then there is tour of Sri Lanka and followed by the home series against them. We have a lot cricket to play, so it is more important for us to think of the game,” said Mahmud.
