Bangladesh camp hopes its batsmen will respond properly on a good batting track in coming days as hosts Sri Lanka finished the second day of their second Test match on 469/6 at Pallekelle International Cricket Stadium in Kandy Friday.

Sri Lanka started their second day from their overnight score of 293 for one.

But Bangladesh bowlers bowled well in the first hour of the morning session and checked the runs.

Particularly, right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed was bowling with good pace and accuracy.

Soon Bangladesh got the reward through Taskin when he took the wicket of well-set Lahiru Thirimanne, who scored 140.

Taskin, who has been showing much better intent and energy throughout the series under unfavorable conditions, was very impressive once again, but the paceman would rue his luck as his butter-fingered teammates dropped catches throughout the day.

Despite those drops, the fast bowler also got the wickets of experienced Angelo Mathews (five) and Pathum Nissanka (30).

However, Niroshan Dickwella’s unbeaten run-a-ball 64 helped the hosts reach a decent position before bad light forced the umpires to call an early end to the day's play.

Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam, who got the wicket of first match centurion Dhananjaya de Silva with a marvelous delivery, believes the side can come back if they pick the remaining wickets early and their batsmen apply themselves to utilize the favorable conditions for the batters.

“We made a good comeback on the second day. Bowlers bowled well, particularly Taskin bowled really well. When pace bowlers perform well then spinners like me or (Mehedi Hasan) Miraz get a lot of help to check the runs,” Taijul said during the virtual press conference following the end of the day’s play.

“Wicket is still good to bat. It looks fresh so far. But also it’s difficult to predict how it will behave. Hopefully our batsmen will bat well and put up a big total in the first innings,” Taijul added.
