Bangladesh will ascend to the top of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League standings if they can secure a win against visitors Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the series at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday.
Bangladesh are currently at number four in the table but have equal 40 points with England, Pakistan and Australia. The Tigers bagged their fourth win in the league in seven games, defeating Sri Lanka in the first match of the three-match ODI series at SBNS on Sunday. The previous three wins for Bangladesh had come against West Indies at home earlier this year.
Despite a late assault by Sri Lanka late middle order batsman Wanindu Hasaranga, Bangladesh held strong with a sensational bowling display and registered a 33-run win over their South Asian opponents. Bangladesh off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz had led the pack with 4 scalps for 30 runs while left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rehman complemented the effort with his return of 3 for 34.

Earlier Bangladesh had put up a par total of 257/6 on the back of Mushfiqur Rahim’s man of the match innings of 84 off 87 and with half-centuries from captain Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah.
Bangladesh in the Super League table are followed by New Zealand at number five, Afganistan at number six and West Indies and India at number seven and eight respectively.

The ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League is a competition which is taking place across two years and will determine which teams qualify in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
India, who are the hosts in 2023, and the other top seven teams will qualify automatically for the World Cup. The bottom five teams will play a qualifying tournament, which will also feature the best teams from the lower rungs of competition.
