Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League Twenty20 side Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited fell into hot water after the Bangladesh Cricket Board and Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis claimed of a potential breach of the bio-security environment that has been put in place for the tournament.

The board and CCDM are looking into the incident and will take necessary actions.

The incident involved ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan who is leading Mohammedan in the ongoing T20 tournament.

According to media reports, the breach happened Friday when Shakib was training in the nets at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

While batting in the nets, Shakib was accompanied by net bowlers who are not part of the bio-secured bubble.

There was also an unidentified man seen mingling with those in the nets and taking photos during the practice session.

“It has come to the attention of the BCB and CCDM that a potential breach of the bio-security environment in place for the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League T20 has occurred during a practice session of Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited on May 4, 2021. The BCB and CCDM have taken the matter very seriously and an investigation has been initiated,” said a BCB media release Saturday.

CCDM chairman Kazi Inam Ahmed in the media release expressed disappointment regarding the incident.

“We are disappointed to note this incident. Both the CCDM and the BCB have taken this very seriously. The health and safety of our teams, players and officials are most important to us. We have invested a significant amount of finances and efforts to make sure the BSE protocols are in place including the best possible accommodation and logistics. This incident is being looked into and necessary actions and further precautionary measures will be taken,” said BCB director Inam in the media release.

Mohammedan and Shakib were involved in another Covid-19 health safety breach ahead of the tournament.

As per media reports, Shakib had breached his 14-day long hotel quarantine last month, which was in place following his return from India after the suspension of the Indian Premier League T20.

Shakib had moved out from his hotel to sign an agreement with Mohammedan for the ongoing tournament.

Mohammedan directors Mahbub Anam and AGM Sabbir had met Shakib to complete the signing formalities, despite the cricketer being in quarantine.
