Abahani's Mohammad Naim prepares to launch during their DPL match against Rupganj in Mirpur Thursday BCB

Prime Bank, Doleshwar, Abahani, Mohammedan, Sk Jamal and Gazi Group will play the super six stage of the tournament, which will start from Saturday

Abahani Limited pulled off a crucial victory over Legends of Rupganj in their Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League Twenty20 match to stay alive in the title hunt in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Thursday.

Rupganj’s defeat against Abahani, their last match of the group stage, means they have finished the league in the bottom three (10th) in the points table with seven points from 11 games and will now play the relegation league with 11th placed Old DOHS (six points) and Partex Sporting Club (one point).

In the first match of the day, Prime Bank Cricket Club retained top spot with a comfortable win against Khelaghar Samaj  Kalyan Samity, while Gazi Group Cricketers won the last game of the day.

Meanwhile, all the other matches at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan and BKSP 4 - between Old DOHS and Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club, Brothers Union and Lt. Shekih Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited, and Shinepukur Cricket Club and Partex - were interrupted due to rain and later, no result was declared for all three.

However, Brothers opener Mizanur Rahman scored a magnificent hundred, first in this season's DPL, as the right-hander smashed an unbeaten 100 off just 65 deliveries with 13 fours and three sixes.

Prime Bank, Doleshwar, Abahani, Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited, Sheikh Jamal and Gazi Group will play the super six stage of the tournament, which will start from Saturday.

Abahani v Rupganj

Rupganj had to win the match against Abahani to avoid playing in the relegation league as Khelaghar lost their last game in the morning.

So a victory would have taken Rupganj (seven points after 10 games) over Khelaghar (eight points after 11 games).

Knowing this equation, Rupganj posted a challenging total of 162 losing five wickets in their 18 overs as the game was reduced to 18-over-per-side due to rain.

Opener Jaker Ali played the anchor's role to score 52 off 42 deliveries with three fours and two sixes to help Rupganj register a good total on the board.

No 3 batsman Sabbir Rahman also looked impressive before getting out during the 11th over.

Sabbir scored 35 off 27 balls with two fours and as many sixes.

Mehedi Hasan Rana picked up three wickets for Abahani, while Saifuddin took two.

In reply, Abahani openers Munim Shahriar (22) and Nazmul Hossain Shanto (29) gave Abahani a quick start.

But regular fall of wickets in the middle stage caused Abahani some trouble while chasing.

Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim (20), Mosaddek Hossain (15) and Afif Hossain (21) all went back to the pavilion after getting a good start and Abahani’s chase looked tough after 13.1 overs when Mosaddek got out.

But Mohammad Naim played a superb knock of 39 off just 19 deliveries with two fours and two sixers to pull off a brilliant chase.

Saifuddin was unbeaten on 14 at the other end and he was adjudged man-of-the-match for his all-round effort.

Prime Bank v Khelaghar

In the first match of the day, the match was reduced to 10 overs due to rain and Khelaghar scored 68 runs losing five wickets in their 10 overs.

In reply, Prime Bank achieved the target with five balls to spare, and having lost five wickets.

Opener Rony Talukdar scored 39 for Prime Bank, while Anamul Haque Bijoy made 17 and Tamim Iqbal scored nine.

Prime Bank’s Rony was adjudged man-of-the-match for his quickfire innings.

Mohammedan v Gazi Group

Shakib al Hasan returned for Mohammedan after serving his three-match ban and after batting first, the Motijheel based outfit posted 149 for the loss of nine wickets in their stipulated 20 overs.

Shakib scored 10 off 16 balls, while Shuvagata Hom was the top-scorer with 42 off 20 balls.

Rain interrupted when Gazi Group came out to bat and the revised target was 115 in 14 overs.

Eventually Gazi Group chased down their target in 11.1 overs losing just three wickets.

Yasir Ali was the highest scorer for Gazi Group as the right-hander made 45 off just 25 deliveries.
