Prime Bank's Nahidul Islam goes big during their DPL Super League match against Gazi Group in Mirpur Wednesday BCB

Abahani achieved their revised target with seven balls and seven wickets in hand

Abahani Limited and Prime Bank Cricket Club won their respective Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League Twenty20 matches against Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club and Gazi Group Cricketers in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Wednesday.

Doleshwar v Abahani

Doleshwar won the toss and elected to bat first.

But their batting effort was average as a team as they managed to score only 135 runs in their 20 overs losing six wickets.

Both openers Imranuzzaman (31 from as many as balls) and Saif Hasan (20 off 14) started their innings well but could not prolong their innings.

Fazley Rabbi scored 32 in the middle-order but his strike rate was below par as the left-hander scored these runs from 41 balls before getting out in the last over.

Skipper Farhad Reza scored 19 off just seven deliveries to help them get past the 130-mark.

Abahani’s Saifuddin took three wickets conceding 27 runs.

In reply, Abahani openers made a solid start as they scored 36 without losing any wicket in five overs when rain interrupted play.

Munim Shahriar was unbeaten on 17 and Liton Das was not out on 18 when rain stopped proceedings.

After resuming play, the revised target was 91 from 13 overs and Abahani achieved their ambition with seven balls and seven wickets in hand.

Gazi Group v Prime Bank

Batting first, Gazi Group only managed to score 125 losing nine wickets in their 20 overs.

The start was not ideal for Gazi Group as opener Soumya Sarkar got out for a golden duck in the third ball of the innings.

Losing regular wickets in the first 10 overs restricted their runs and they were only 60-odd during the middle of their innings losing five wickets.

Ariful Haque (31) and Akbar Ali (24) scored some notable runs in the late stage to take the side past 120 but their 125 total was nowhere near the ideal score in this kind of wicket.

Prime Bank’s Alok Kapali took three wickets conceding just 16 runs in his four overs.

Prime Bank’s start of the innings in pursuit of 126 was not perfect either, as they also lost quick wickets within the first powerplay.

After 10 overs were played, they scored only 51 and had lost half their side already.

No 6 batsman Nahidul Islam played a crucial knock, scoring 39 off 25 balls with one four and three sixes to turn the tables for Prime Bank.

Ten runs were needed in the last over with just two wickets in hand, but veteran Kapali made sure they reached their target as the right-hander smashed a six in the last over.

Kapali was unbeaten on 21 off 15 balls and later adjudged man-of-the-match for his all-round performance.
