Tamim will miss the three T20Is against hosts Zimbabwe on July 22, 23 and 25 respectively and is also set to miss the home fixtures against Australia and New Zealand

Bangladesh opener and ODI captain Tamim Iqbal is going to miss action for at least two months due to recovery process from his knee injury.

The left-handed opener thus will return home from the ongoing tour of Zimbabwe without playing the three-match T20I series. Bangladesh will play the three T20Is against hosts Zimbabwe on July 22, 23 and 25 respectively.

Tamim will also to miss the home fixtures against Australia and New Zealand.

Bangladesh upon return from Zimbabwe will host Australia for a five-match T20I series in early August 2 to 8 followed by a series against New Zealand in the same format in September.

“Tamim will head back home after the ODI series [against Zimbabwe] along with Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam. Tamim has been asked to rest for around two months for which he will not be available for the series against Australia and New Zealand,” said chief of the national selection panel Minhajul Abedin to the media on Tuesday.

Tamim pcked an injury on his right knee during the tour of Sri Lanka in April-May for a two-match Test series.

The left-handed batsman however did not go into rest as he played the same opponents at home in a three-match ODI series and then took part in the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Cricket League T20. With the injury worsening, Tamim however had to quit midway of the tournament and missed the Super League stage.

Tamim has been part of the Zimbabwe tour from the start but it is understood that the team management had carried the batsman to be ready for the ODI series as the matches are part of the ICC Men’s World Cup Super League.

The south-paw was rested in the lone Test at the start of the tour and will now coming back home without playing the T20I series.

Tamim has been suggested for a long rest by Australian surgeon David Young. Tamim is likely to be back in action for the home OD series against England in October this year.
