Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo has extended his contract till the end of 2023.

Bangladesh Cricket Board cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan confirmed the development to the media Friday.

Domingo was initially appointed on a two-year contract in August 2019.

"Yes, we have decided to extend Domingo's contract till the end of the ODI World Cup [October-November, 2023]. And regarding other members of the coaching staff, we will arrive at a decision soon," said Akram.

Domingo was under heavy criticism and in the line of fire as Bangladesh team were struggling earlier this year.

The scenario however, changed for the former South Africa coach following the tour of Zimbabwe and the home series against Australia.

Bangladesh in the tour of Zimbabwe secured wins in the lone Test, three ODIs and two T20Is in three.

At home, Bangladesh dominated visitors Australia on slow and low pitches at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium to register a historic 4-1 series win in the five-match T20I series.
