Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo said experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim does not want to keep wickets in T20I cricket anymore.

Bangladesh suffered a heavy defeat in the third match of the five-T20I series against New Zealand in Mirpur’s She-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Sunday.

Nurul Hasan is fulfilling the wicket-keeping duties for the Tigers since the Zimbabwe series as he kept wickets for Bangladesh in the last 10 T20Is.

When Mushfiq and Liton Das, both as a wicketkeeper-batsman, returned for the New Zealand series, questions were raised as to who will keep the wicket for Tigers in the home series before the T20 World Cup.

Prior to the New Zealand series, head coach Domingo informed the media that the keeping duties will be shared between Mushfiq and Nurul.

Domingo also said Sohan will keep in the first two games, then Mushfiq will take over the keeping duties in the following two, and then a decision on the fifth match will be taken later.

But the fact is Nurul kept the wicket for the Tigers in the third game and Mushfiq played as a batsman.

"There has been a change. Initially after speaking to Mushy, he was going to keep after the second game, but Mushfiq told me that he probably doesn't want to keep in T20 cricket anymore, so we have got to move on. We have to focus on Sohan (Nurul) and possibly let him (Sohan) to doing his wicket-keeping duties in the competition," said Domingo.

"Obviously we were outplayed by New Zealand. That’s the nature of this format. Full credit to New Zealand. They batted very well compared to us. I am disappointed but that’s the nature of the game.

"I don’t think there was problem about the approach of the batting. We wanted to stay ahead of our required rate because once you get behind in the required rate, it gets difficult to catch up. We started well but lost wickets later in clusters. I think that was the main problem."

The fourth match of the series will be played Wednesday at the same venue.
