The BCB has shown interest to solely host the ICC Champions Trophy and jointly host the T20 World Cup and 50-over World Cup
Bangladesh Cricket Board has shown intesret to host International Cricket Council events in the eight-year cycle between 2024 to 2031.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan while speaking to the media following the 12th meeting of the BCB board of directors at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Tuesday informed that Bangladesh showed interest in hosting future ICC events following clearance from the government.
According to the BCB supremo, the organization has shown interest to solely host the ICC Champions Trophy and jointly host the T20 World Cup and 50-over World Cup.
“We have applied to solely host the Champions Trophy because we have enough stadiums to host this [eight-team] event. For T20 World Cup, we have applied jointly with Sri Lanka as we do not have enough stadiums needed to host this tournament by our own," said Nazmul.
“For one-day World Cup we have formed a group of three – with Sri Lanka and Pakistan. We needed to have clearance of different ministries here before applying to the ICC. I am happy to inform that the clearance has come directly from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Bangladesh government will give its full support if we want to host a tournament,” he added.
ICC earlier this year declared its events between 2024 to 2031.
The eight-year frame will hold two 50-over World Cups in 2027 and 2031.
Four T20 World Cups will be held in 2024, 2026, 2028 and 2030 respectively.
Two editions of the Champions Trophy have been slated for 2025 and 2029 respectively.
