BCB president Nazmul Hasan briefs the media in Mirpur Tuesday as CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury and board director Jalal Younus look on BCB

Nazmul said he no longer wants to get elected as BCB president uncontested

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan has urged individuals to show interest and participate in the board election for the president’s post.

Nazmul has been the elected board president for the last two terms and is likely to remain in his post in the upcoming BCB election with no competitor coming forward yet to vie for the position.

Nazmul while speaking to the media following the 12th meeting of the BCB board of directors at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Tuesday said he no longer wants to get elected as BCB president uncontested.

“The way it is now, it seems there will be no change in BCB president until I die. I urge people to come forward and show interest for this post. I promise that they will have my full support,” said the BCB boss.

“I do not have any panel. Anyone who wishes can contest. I will come to the board contesting as a director with request that I do not want to be the president anymore. But I am always there to support. There has been panel in the elections so far and for that no one shows interest to contest for the president post. Now no one can say a candidate belongs to a particular panel. There will be no panel. I will expect contest in this election,” he added.

The current term of the BCB board of directors under Nazmul is set to end this month.

Though there is provision of holding the election in 45 days, the BCB will not wait and is rather looking to hold the election by the end of September.

The board earlier this month named a five-member election commission for conducting the upcoming board of directors' Election 2021 and the councilors have finished submitting their respective forms meeting the deadline Monday.

The BCB election is held in three categories.

In category one, 12 directors are elected from and by the Dhaka League Clubs.

In category two, 10 directors are elected from and by the district sports associations.

In category three, one director is elected with votes of the councilors in the form of former cricketers, university, education board and government agencies.
