Bangladesh manager Satyajit Das Rupu clarified the situation, saying it was an honest mistake on Jamal Bhuiyan's part
A particular incident involving Bangladesh captain Jamal Bhuiyan was noticed prior to their Saff Championship 2021 opener against Sri Lanka in Male Friday.
Just before the game started, when the two teams were lining up for photographs alongside the match officials, it was seen that Jamal was wearing his customary jersey No 6, but shorts with a different number - 5.
Having started the match and realizing his mistake, Jamal then changed his shorts to No 6 and completed the game, which Bangladesh won 1-0.
But by then, photos of Jamal's incorrect jersey and shorts combination had made the rounds on the social media platforms.
Bangladesh manager Satyajit Das Rupu though clarified the situation, saying it was an honest mistake on Jamal's part.
Rupu told Bangla Tribune, "After the warm-up, the players came into the dressing room where the jerseys No 5 and 6 were kept together. By mistake, Jamal had worn the shorts with the No 5. Actually he couldn't notice. When it came to his attention, he played with the shorts with No 6."
