Bangladesh finish ninth in FIDE online Olympiad

Bangladesh Chess Team finished in the 9^th position among 10 teams with three match points and 17 game points in the Pool ‘A’ in Division 2 of the FIDE Online World Chess Olympiad on Sunday, informed a press release of Bangladesh Chess Federation.

In seventh round Bangladesh drew with Turkeministan. IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman and WCM Ahmed Walijah won their respective matches, GM Niaz Murshed and GM Ziaur Rahman drew their respective matches while WIM Rani Hamid and WIM Sharmin Sultana Shirin lost their respective matches.

In 8^th round Bangladesh lost to Philippines by 1½-4½ game points. Zia won, Fahad drew but Niaz, Rani, WCM Samiha Sharmin Shimmi and Walijah lost their games. 

In 9^th and last round Bangladesh lost to Bulgaria by ½-5½ game points. Fahad’s draw fetched the half point for Bangladesh. 

Bulgaria secured top position getting 18 MP, Germany were second with 15 MP and Indonesia got the last qualified position for the top division with 12 MP. 

Fahad got highest five points from eight games among Bangladeshis. Zia got 2.5 from five games, Niaz got equal number of points from six games, GM Reefat Bin Sattar earned 2 points out of 6 games, Walijah earned 2 points out of 5 games, WCM Noshin Anjum earned 1 point out of 4 games, Shirin earned 1 points out of 5 games and WIM Rani Hamid earned 1 point out 6 games.
