Mustafizur: I'm ready for all three formats
Paceman Mustafizur Rahman informed that he is fit enough to represent Bangladesh in all three formats. The left-arm pacer, who talked to the media in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium after an intense day-long training session with his team mates ahead of Sri Lanka series, said he is ready to give his best if given the opportunity. “I was out for a few months due to injury. After that, I went to New Zealand and took part in the limited-overs matches. But I was not ready for the longer format of the game,” said Mustafizur on Saturday. “I did not take part in the India Test. At that time, I played two BCL (Bangladesh Cricket League) games here. That helped me a lot. I managed to bowl in rhythm there. I tried to bowl with pace and swing. Although stock deliveries like cutters and slowers are not that effective in the four-day format, I had to concentrate on pitching in the right areas and swing the ball. “I think those two games went pretty well for me. So I am feeling much more comfortable with my bowling right now. I am ready for all three formats and will try my best if If I get the chance,” he added. Mustafizur has only played two Test matches so far in his career, against South Africa in July-August 2015. Mustafizur’s career was hindered in the last six months as he underwent shoulder surgery in June 2016. Before that, he made a dream debut in the IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was arguably the best bowler of IPL 9. After his successful IPL campaign, Mustafizur took part in the NatWest T20 Blast for Sussex Sharks. The southpaw was back in action for the Tigers in the tour of New Zealand. But he only played two ODIs and as many T20Is and was not risked for the Tests. Bangladesh did not take any risk with their star paceman in the one-off Test against India in February. Earlier last Friday, Mustafizur won the 2016 ESPNcricinfo award for the best T20I bowling performance of the year. He received the trophy on Saturday. He was rewarded for his five-wicket haul against New Zealand in the 2016 World T20 in India. Meanwhile, Bangladesh youngster Mehedi Hasan Miraz was named debutant of the year in the same awards. The off-spinner took 19 wickets in his debut series against England in October-November last year at home. I hope I can continue my hard work and perform better in future,” said Miraz. “The way Mustafizur performed against India in his debut year, it was outstanding. It was encouraging for me and I took some confidence from that performance,” he added. Bangladesh trained on Saturday for the second day in succession, ahead of the Sri Lanka Tests. The whole team underwent ground fielding practice in the morning session before sweating it out in the nets in the afternoon.
