Following the end of their historic 100th Test match, against Sri Lanka at P Sara Oval in Colombo on Sunday, Shakib said, "I always try to do something for the team. I think I am also a bit lucky, to perform in such games for the team. It is a big deal for me to give an influential performance for the team.
"I am happy with how I performed. I will try to repeat such performances for the team over and over again. We hope we will win more Tests in future.
"I always try my best for the team. Sometimes I get success, sometimes I don't. I bowled well in this match. Probably after this match, he (Chandika Hathurusingha) will say I am back, like 2010 (smiles)," he said, alluding to Hathurusingha's assertion that the Magura lad bowled out of his skin in 2010, as opposed to recent times.
The Tigers recently beat formidable England at home. When queried over which win is more memorable, the England victory or the one against the Lankans, Shakib refused to compare, instead saying, "The win against England and this victory against Sri Lanka away from home now feature at the top of our list."
Many are of the opinion that the current Lankan side are an inexperienced one, due to the absence of regular captain Angelo Mathews (injury) and retirements of stalwarts like Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene.
Shakib however, said, "Absolutely not (inexperienced Sri Lanka). This team beat Australia 3-0 just a few months back."
