Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam’s six-wicket haul guided Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited to victory in a low-scoring game against Legends of Rupganj in round six of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2016-17 season on Tuesday. Abahani Limited got back to the winning ways against Kalabagan Krira Chakra while Prime Bank Cricket Club lost their first game in six attempts, against Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club.
Mohammedan v Rupganj, BKSP 3
Asked to bat first, Mohammedan were unable to register long partnerships and thus managed to put up only 135 runs on the board losing all of their wickets in 39.4 overs. Captain Raqibul Hasan’s 24 was the highest while all-rounder Asif Hasan led the way for Rupganj bagging four wickets.
Chasing a low total, Rupganj batsmen lost their way as just three batsmen reached double figures. They were all out for only 84 in 32.4 overs as Taijul single-handedly removed the first six Rupganj batsmen conceding just 24 in his quota of 10 overs.
Captain Mosharraf Hossain’s 22 was the best for Rupganj as they fell short by 51 runs.
Prime v Doleshwar, Fatullah
Doleshwar secured a seven-wicket victory to inflict on Prime their first defeat this season. Batting first, Prime, propelled by wicketkeeper-batsman Zakir Hasan's 52, scored 180 before being dismissed with a ball to spare. Seamers Farhad Reza and Delwar Hossain picked up three wickets each for Doleshwar.
In reply, Shahriar Nafees’ unbeaten 78 and Marshall Ayub’s 62 steered Doleshwar to the shore in 45.2 overs. Shahriar, in his 125-ball innings, struck five boundaries and a six while Marshall hammered half a dozen boundaries in his 85-ball knock.
Kalabagan v Abahani, BKSP 4
Abahani tasted their first win in three matches when they defeated Kalabagan by six wickets. The game was yet another low-scoring affair with Kalabagan invited to bat first. Kalabagan ended up scoring 156 in 45.5 overs losing all wickets. A 60-ball 36 by Kalabagan captain Tushar Imran was the highest of the innings. Shuvagata Hom made the most damage with the ball for Abahani, notching four wickets conceding 19 in 10 overs.
