Sylhet franchise set to return to BPL T20
The upcoming edition of the BPL T20 is all set to become an eight-team affair as Sylhet franchise are likely to return after missing the 2016 season. Member of the BPL governing council, Sheikh Sohel in a press conference on Saturday said the Sylhet franchise are set to come back in the tournament under the patronisation of Bangladesh Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith. However, the name of the company that will have the franchise right of the BPL outfit Sylhet was not revealed. “We did not sell Sylhet franchise last season because we were waiting for a good company to come up for the franchise. The Finance Minister showed interest to patronise this team now and I believe it is a very good option for us. I hope the team will run smoothly and professionally under his (Abul Maal Abdul Muhith) leadership,” Sohel told the media. The BCB had cut off the agreement with the previous owner of Sylhet franchise, Alif Group, who failed to clear the team fee to cricket's governing body in the country and make payments to the players in the 2015 season of the money-spinning tournament. Meanwhile, Sylhet is likely to emerge as the third venue in the impending edition of the tournament, alongside Dhaka and Chittagong. The next BPL is likely to be held in December this year. “We are in discussion of having Sylhet as the third venue for the tournament this year. If everything falls into place, the Sylhet Divisional Stadium will be part of the tournament,” Sohel informed.
