Despite losing 2-0 to South Africa in the Test series, Bangladesh have gained two rating points in the ICC Test team ranking.
With 72 points and ninth place in the ranking, the Tigers have closed down the gap to three points with the eighth placed West Indies, who have 75 rating points.
South Africa gained a rating point as well. The Proteas have 111 points and are at second position, six more than third placed England.
Bangladesh opener Imrul Kayes advanced four spots to 69th position in the Test batsmen's rankings, as well as Liton Kumar Das who climbed 30 spots to 91st position. Bowler Subashish Roy advanced to 86th spot, advancing 18 positions.
Proteas bowler Kagiso Rabada’s exceptional performance in the two-match Test series propelled him to his career-best Test ranking of third, gaining two positions.
He took five wickets in both the innings of the second Test. Conceding 63 runs for 10 wickets, the South African paceman enabled his team to an innings and 254-run victory. Duanne Oliver gained nine steps and is currently 48th in the rankings.
Among the Proteas batsmen, skipper Faf du Plessis climbed to 14th spot, gaining two positions while Aiden Markram climbed 43 spots to his career-best 61st ranking.
