Rangpur Riders’ English all-rounder Ravi Bopara has heaped praise on captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza, ahead of the fifth edition of the BPL T20, scheduled to get underway Saturday in Sylhet.
“Mash is a type of guy you want to play for. He gives 100% so you have to give 100%. It is good for any team. Nobody can be lazy with Mash. He is a good cricketer. He is a very accurate bowler, and he can smack the ball against the spinners. He has authority, which is good,” Bopara told the media in Mirpur Saturday.
Bopara said he is eager to win the money-spinning tournament and informed that he is familiar with the surrounding, having played in the BPL before.
“I want to win the tournament. There’s no point coming here to lose. I am playing with new players; I have played with Ziaur [Rahman] before in the 50-over competition. There are some English guys and I have worked with Tom Moody in the past. Very nice and very familiar,” he said.
Bopara went on to praise the cash-rich competition, saying the participation of big players like Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and West Indies’ Dwayne Bravo have added gloss to the tournament.
“There have been big players in the past, like last year you had Sangakkara and Bravo. The competition has always been good in Bangladesh. There are some good spin players here,” he explained.
“A lot depends on the pitches – if they are good we are going to have a good tournament. If they are bad then it will be interesting. We expect competition against every team, but we have got the team.
“I haven’t thought too much about personal goals but I want to win. Bowl tightly and when I bat, get runs quickly,” the 32-year old concluded.
