Comilla Victorians registered a commanding nine-wicket victory against Khulna Titans to climb to second position in the points table following their BPL 2017 match at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Cricket Stadium Tuesday.
Chasing 112, Comilla cruised to their target within just 13.5 overs. Comilla now have 12 points from eight games while Khulna are still leading the standing with 13 points from 10 matches.
The Victorians only lost the wicket of opener Liton Das as the Titans’ pacer Kyle Abbott took the lone wicket. Comilla captain Tamim Iqbal played a brilliant innings and remained unbeaten on 64 off 42 balls with a dozen boundaries. No 3 batsman Imrul Kayes (22) was the other not out batter at the crease.
Earlier, Khulna captain Mahmudullah opted to bat first. Khulna played the same XI from their previous game but Comilla brought back Liton, the West Indies’ Marlon Samues and Dwayne Bravo in place of Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman, the veteran Alok Kapali and Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan.
Khulna’s strong batting line-up collapsed like a pack of cards as they lost regular wickets from the very beginning. At one stage, they lost five wickets for just 40 runs in 6.5 overs. Comilla bowlers were spot on with their line and length.
No 6 batsman Ariful Haque scored a-run-a-ball 24 for Khulna. Lower order batsman Shafiul Islam (16) and Abbott (16) helped Khulna put up 111 for the loss of all wickets in 19.2 overs.
Player of the match Shoaib Malik and seamer Al Amin Hossain picked up three wickets each for Comilla.
