Bangladesh women's cricket team captain Rumana Ahmed will get the opportunity to experience the Big Bash League T20 as she has been chosen as an ICC Rookie for franchise Brisbane Heat.
The all-rounder is one among eight players from around the world who will be designated with a Big Bash club for the third edition of the tournament.
The joint initiative taken by Cricket Australia and the ICC will see cricketers from Scotland, Bangladesh, Ireland, Papua New Guinea and the Netherlands fly off down under to join each of the franchises.
Rumana, appointed Bangladesh captain last February, will be at Heat for around three weeks from January 10 to garner exposure and experience.
She said her stint with Brisbane will be an invaluable experience.
“The Big Bash is the only franchisee-based tournament for women and is very competitive,’’ she informed.
“Every woman cricketer wants to be a part of it. The coverage of the event will be worldwide and that’s a big incentive. This experience is bound to make me a better all-round professional and player," the 26-year old added.
Rumana has played 20 ODIs and 31 T20Is for the red and green, famously emerging as the first Bangladesh woman to take a hat-trick in international cricket in September last year against Ireland, helping them to a series-deciding win against the Irish.
The Heat will take on Perth Scorchers in their opening game Sunday, December 10 in Sydney.
