Shakib drops Gayle’s catch while he was on 22Rangpur Riders opener Chris Gayle once again proved to the world how much he can be dangerous and destructive with the bat after scoring 146 off just 69 balls. The big hitter rewrote the record book with amazing power hitting. The left-hander smashed 18 sixes, yes, you read it right, 18 sixes in his innings. But that knock could have been prevented if Dhaka Dynamites captain Shakib al Hasan had held on to the catch at cover while Gayle was batting on only 22 off 16 deliveries. The unfortunate bowler was Mosaddek Hossain and the incident happened in the third ball of the sixth over. Gayle chipped a drive hard to extra cover, where Shakib grassed the catch. And in the end, it proved to be extremely costly for Dhaka.Mashrafe takes brilliant catch to remove LewisDhaka needed a strong start in order to chase down the mammoth target of 207 and retain the BPL title. Mehedi Maruf and Evin Lewis opened the innings for Dhaka and a lot depended on Lewis. The left-handed West Indian has the reputation of big hitting, just like Gayle and the opener was in good form in BPL 2017. Lewis scored 381 runs in 11 innings for Dhaka before Tuesday's final, at a strike rate of more than 150. But Rangpur took the wicket of Lewis quite early in the innings as he managed to score only 15 off nine balls. And the credit goes to Sohag Gazi and skipper Mashrafe bin Mortaza, who took a brilliant catch at the deep long-on region. The incident happened in the second ball of the fourth over. Lewis connected a top edge and the ball went to long on. Mashrafe ran backwards from mid on towards long on and took the catch beautifully. And so, it was a brilliant catch and one of the most important for Rangpur in context of the game.
